RE: Outside shower, Quartzsite

I guess I've missed the boat on this as well as many issues about using the great outdoors... I've camped and hunted all over Montana, as well as Alaska, and many other states.. I see no reason to not use an outdoor shower...yes I would say use an earth friendly soap but other then that we are talking water..plain old H2O... where is the harm? the nearby grass or bushs will thank you... And why does every body pretend they run back to their RV to take a leak?? we all know we use the nearest buch...and it's not gonna hurt the earth... yes if 40 K ppl all leak on the ground for a week in a small area it's a problem...but a few ppl as in a hunting camp? I'm not talking about taking a dump on the trail but if ya gotta go and there's no place except behind a bush, dig a hole and do your biz, cover it up and go on..the earth will not end...mother nature will use your leavings... My oppinion will not make points with the greenies but there is a world of difference between their ideas and real life..and if you think they don't just whip it out and water the weeds then your smoking the same brand of craolas they are... I would never use the outside shower...unless I was miles from another human...why scare the rest of the world??? but as for the water...it ain't gonna hurt a thing... That's my oppinion...worth what ya paid... Trip

RE: Does it ever Occur....

I'm maybe a mile from the beach, if it makes more sense to you that way, Trip. Down here, when the snowbirds go home it's like ghost towns. I like it better that way. More hookups, less people. In town, but not. About as little or as much solitude as I please. I like people. Just don't need 'em in my face 24/7. Or even 1/7. Got a MH and no toad (shopping for one now). I don't need to be way out in the boonies where a simple grocery run is a life-altering event, lol. Just trying to decide what to do for the winter, that's all. Amazing to me is the number of people who own MH's and store them around here most of the year. They just fly in and out or drive their cars here and hardly use the MH's at all. Then they stick 'em in a CG and don't drive them anyway. That's just...beyond me. I see the point of not wanting to store up north, since you have to winterize and all. I see the savings in flying or driving a car. I just don't see the point of letting the MH sit virtually unattended or maintained, or why you'd want a Class A if you aren't really going anywhere in it when there are much less expensive and complicated park models all over the place. I asked a couple of permanents here, but they don't get it, either. Maybe that's park of the 'mystique'? Some people just like the idea of it much more than the fact of it - enough to sink many thousands into the things, anyway. I looked at the storage lot. They are not high-end rigs, in general. So these are not wealthy people with just oodles of cash to burn. They must be getting something out of it they really, really want or I suppose they wouldn't do it. Where is down here? unless it's a state secret in which case you can tell me the kill me...lol I assume your in the PRK??? ( Peoples Republik of Kalfornia)or Baja?..as for parking a MH and flying in to sleep in it, the world is full of fools, rich fools, poor fools...I'm sure a lot of ppl think I'm crazy too but...oh well... About Baja, I can't believe people would go there these days, no protection, no way out of a bad spot, the state dept for sure is as useless as boobs on a boar hawg. I'm too paranoid to ever do it... Been a good thread following a grt post...! YO Bolson !!! May there be a road!

RE: Does it ever Occur....

Well I'm not mad at anybody nor would I ever be... it's like a bad movie ..don't like it shut it off. Lifes to short to finish a bad book, toss it start a better one. I've spent most of my life worring more about what other people think of me then I spent worrying about what " I " think of me...no more, nope. I know I have so much to learn but am trying to prepare my selt to handle whatever comes my way. F/T can't be that hard mostly it's done by older folks and I figure if they can I can... I never even thought of what if my T/V ended up in the shop for a week or so...but I know I can deal with it, I read and found the answer...tow the TT to a CG and wait!...in a MH I guess that's not an option. Most of the answers to the questions I don't know are here in this place, I have a laptop and a cell phone, one to research with and one to call somebody who may give a **** about my problem! lol My biggest problem is the thought of looking at a beautiful sunset and not having somebody to share it with... that too will solve it's self one way or another. I'm thankful I found this place, and the people here that can and will help us cherrys and not laugh too hard... maybe? :) It's a bit scary jumping off into the abyss alone but there it is...deal with it. I guess my first thing is to pick a direction, got that, West... Utah...Lake Powell area, then who knows... will think of another place after that one... I may be wrong but I really don't think squating in a CG all winter would be fun... rather be out hiking the boonies and watching the sun rises... but??? who knows? I've never hit a golf ball..... well I did shoot one once from a ways off to prove I could.. Don't swim with this body...BUT ..plan to!! as soon as I lose third of me!! I ramble...sorry ! Trip

RE: Does it ever Occur....

I guess I'm the exception to this entire discussion. I've never been an RV'r, I've never spent the night in one. I'm a novis non vacationer who's about to become a fulltimer. I decided that I was tired of setting here in my rented home after selling my last home and started looking for answers, found this place, started reading, posting, go a few smart replays and a few smarta$$ed responces...:B kept the ones that mattered and flushed the rest. Took advice and went to a local dealer who has a very good rep. started looking at fifht wheels, then came back here and found the boondocker forum then found the "show you boonie pics" thread, and found what I needed to know. That was that , for where I want to go and what I want to do an overly large 5er wasn't it for me, went back to the dealer and said...sorry, no 5er, TT for me, they had a 2 06 25' AF that was perfect for me, and it was traded in the day before, I walked into it and said I'll take it, I was home!!! Then bought my new truck a 350 dodge diesel, way to much truck for the TT but I may love doing this so much I'll want to move up, heck I may find a nice lady that wants to go along...so...prepare for the move up... I've pulled the TT 35 miles, to my BIL's house to weld brackets for 2 more batts... 4 is a good number... got my two new honda 2000'S and am slowly getting ready to make the jump... I'll learn as I go and I'll make mistakes as I go, then I'll learn more... I've no desire at this point to move from CG to CG, I truly want to be out there... on the edge of the earth..no crowds and the ability to enjoy a gajillion stars because of no street lights, no loud cars with BOOM BOOM coming from them... So I'm a newby rv'r that's a fulltimer with 35 miles behind me and the rest of my life ahead of me. All my friends have been thrilled for me but one who said "I think your crazy but it's your life".. I thought ...BINGO!!!!! So soon I will head out on a great adventure, with no plan, no direction, no co pilot, no answers, too new to have the questions yet. BUT.. I have faith in my abilitys, I've made camp in the high mountains with the first breath of winter at the fires edge, slept on the ground by the fire, in grizz country, with my horse standing by the fire, I've ridden so high up that I understood for the first time the meaning of something I read ones... " When a man's sitting on a good horse in the high country, he can see all the way to God" So, I think as a newby I can do this, as a man who's lived a long time, I can say hell I already been here. So I can understand what the OP was talking about, when you've seen the Elephant it's hard to explain it to somebody who ain't. I plan to stay in the lonelys, so if you wonder by , stop at the fire, say howdy, sit a spell, share a cuppa coffee and some "Who shot John" and tell me about the sunset on the side of the mountains I ain't seen yet. To me that's what this is all about, just being, just living, newby or old timer it's all the same in the end...we're here then we ain't. So see it now, do it now, smell those roses now, live life, love life, leave it with no regreats. Sorry to sound morbid, but I just lost somebody who should have out lived me by 30 years, and it showed me that for some , today is all we got, tomorrow is only another today, use them well, use them fully, enjoy them all, good or bad. It's all we got... tripwire the old newby

RE: Upgrade Nightmare

Seems to me there's a lot of "Do the honorable thing" bite the bullet..stuff going on here. Just because OP accepted a deal and now don't want to find it's changed sure don't make him a bad guy. My take is that the dealer contacted the bank, got the wrong figure or wrote something down wrong, the bank or the dealer screwed the pooch on this one.. If the OP don't want to bite this bullet he can say ok..everybody back to square one deals off... bet a bunch the dealer will decide to let the deal stand. OP Gets the old unit back, the dealer gets his back, and the bank gets their money. Nobody's being dishonerable by doing this. a deal is a deal. I don't get the payoff figures from my bank, the dealer does... OP dealt in good faith, somebody made a 1500 dollar OHS**T !!... Me thinks the bank and the dealer have a business agreement, the bank holds the dealers paper. I'd call a halt and start over....with another dealer and maybe bank too....

RE: Moab, Ut. Cell Pone service ?

Hi. Is there cell phone service available around the Moab, Utah area...Canyonlands/Arches Nat'l pks? Can I comunicate from, for instance, Deadhorse Pt. overlook down to someone riding the Shaffer or White Rim trails. We have Verizon service. Thanks I came here with the same question in rregards to the same area... I did buy the "booster" ( for lack of a more techie term) that's made by the Wilson co. and last monday I tried it from the canyon where my Gunclub has our range, I had maybe 2 bars of tower, put the phone into the power cradel and ..PFM!! 5 bars !!! small ant on roof of truck...also the kit comes with a bigger one for the RV, it has ground planes to make up for the rubber roof...haven't tried that yet.. I'm planning to boondock in that area this fall and as much of the winter as nature will allow... Try Wilson, think they are made in St george Utah...

You might want to take this discussion over to the RVing in Mexico forum -- the folks there are very informative. As you might imagine, there is a wide divergence of opinion. Yea I agree, but I'm so new in here I didn't notice the RV in Mex....now I kno.... Trip

We personally have lost nothing in Mexico, or Canada for that matter. Without personal protection, you are at the mercy of anyone who intends you harm. That's kind of my thoughts too Thanks Trip

Going South of the Border

How can it be safe to do this?? there is a war going on right now between two different drug cartels and the Army and police, I just can not see how this can be safe for gringos... I do know that the further you are from the border the safer it is but still.... Do you all go in convoy? and stay together? I'd love to go but not alone...any help here? Any prior threads that have answers to these questions? Thanks Trip

Being in mexico...

Maybe there's something I've missed here but having spent some time on the border many years past I can only judge from that. Some of you go boondocking down there and from all I see and read it's like a full out war down there between a few drug groups and the army and police.. How can it be safe for Gringos? your not allowed to be armed, and the BG's know that. I know that the further you are from the border the better it is but i just can't seem to get around my own personal fears of the idea, unless one is part of a group all going together.. Please enlighten me and guide me to prior posts that maybe deal with this... Thanks Trip

RE: pre-travel checklist

I'm too new to this so I don't have a check list either, so I took this one from Pat and Cindy's Bonish's Every mile a memory site, you might want to check this one out, these two people have got it going and detail all their mistakes and the things they have learned from them. I'm loving their blogs, read more every night. And today I pulled my TT the first 35 miles!!!!!!!!! IZ A RV'R !!! took it to my BIL's place to have him add 2 more spaces for battery boxs on the tongue so I'll have 4 secured with a locking bar, also plan to show him the Motorcycle rack Pat and Cindy had put on the back of their TT.I may follow their tracks but with a lighter bike.. I'm also getting the Wilson cell phone booster(?) or whatever it's called tomorrow and will install it to my TT, after reading their comments on the Wilson I knew I needed one. I hope that run out of great ideas before I run out of money!!!! Check their site, it's well worth it. sound like great people..I hope to meet them one day.. RE: K&N air filters

Well there we have it, what we have I'm not sure of but bygolly we gots it!! I'm still lost so for now I will not change anything...well maybe my skivies. I do have several friends who are Mechs, but only one who is a diesel mech...but I'll ask him.. Really wanna get a good war going? try this.. My friend whos the diesel mech runs two ford Diesels. He burns ATF..yep, plain old tranny fluid that he salvages from the ford dealership where he works...filters it and burns it. I know it coz I seen it... he also said that he didn't "think" Chevy or Dodge engs would run on it. He does keep a log of his miles using it and pays unto Ceaser that which is Ceasers. Will it run?? I watched him pull a stright away grade at 100 MPH and never even bobbled...no not smart but he did it...so he has power. I only toss this in because it seemed like it might get a good "debate" going again. Another question, why change to 5" exhust pipes? I really need to sit down and talk about owning this rig with a for real, good mech.

RE: Sway bars

I should have read a bit further down as the same debate is rageing.. I guess it's up to me and my wallet.. I have yet to see a price tag on a HA...the reese my dealer is pushing is about 200.00 or so...can't remember at the moment...haven't signed the papers yet... I did see where somebody bought a used HA for 1700.00....WOW!! that's used price????? I may not want one... But I'm looking down the road at maybe a bigger unit so why buy twice??

Sway bars

I've tried to wade thru the thread on the Hensley Arrow and to be honest as a newby I really don't want to know "why" it works. only that it does.. My TV is a 350 Dodge Diesel SRW...my TT is an AF 25 ft slider.. My dealer is trying to sell me a "friction bar type..Reese? but I have read everywhere that those are a piece of junk ...everybody says the HA is the best... I know you get what you pay for and as a newby I'd rather buy one bar...so I'm thinking HA.. Please without getting into a war over it can you good folks please tell me thru your own experinces which should I get? I'm assuming if I enjoy full timing I will move up to a bigger unit..but that's down the road.. What would you do now that you've been around the block? Thanks Tripwire

RE: Trade my Yamaha 2400 for Honda 2000

I just called Wise and the quote is 2 Honda 2000 with the duel connector shipped to me..$1960.00 this seems pretty good to me...but will check the local sales first... I might be better off with one 3000 if it will run my whole unit..a 25 TT AF.. Air isn't that big a deal..maybe?.... Trip I just called the local dealer, the 2000 honda isabout $100.00 + higher, so 2 gen savings is 200 + and Wise price inc the connector +shipping..no brainer..Wisesales wins the rubber ducky !!
